Description

Sweet potato casserole is a classic holiday dish featuring creamy mashed sweet potatoes topped with a crunchy, sweet pecan streusel or marshmallows. It’s a comforting and indulgent side dish that pairs perfectly with roast turkey or ham.

Ingredients

5 sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
½ cup packed brown sugar
¼ cup margarine or butter
3 tablespoons orange juice
1 pinch ground cinnamon
1 (10.5 ounce) package miniature marshmallows

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Gather all ingredients, and preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Boil Sweet Potatoes: Place sweet potatoes in a large saucepan with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat, drain, and mash.
Prepare Mixture: Place mashed sweet potatoes in a large bowl. Add brown sugar, margarine, orange juice, and cinnamon; mix with an electric mixer until blended.
Assemble Casserole: Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly into a 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle marshmallows over the top.
Bake: Bake in the preheated oven until the casserole is heated through and the marshmallows are puffed and golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes.
Serve: Serve and enjoy! 🍽️

Notes

– Sweet potato casserole can be assembled in advance and refrigerated, then baked just before serving.

– Customize the topping with marshmallows for a gooey finish or pecans for added crunch.

– Adjust sweetness and spices to taste preferences.
