Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
For the Garlic Butter:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Make the dough: Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Stir to form a dough, then knead for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the breadsticks: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a long breadstick shape. Place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Second rise: Cover the breadsticks and let them rise for another 15-20 minutes.
- Bake: Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Garlic butter topping: While the breadsticks are baking, mix the melted butter with minced garlic, oregano, and garlic powder.
- Brush and serve: As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them generously with the garlic butter. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
- For extra flavor, brush with garlic butter again right before serving.
- You can add Italian seasoning to the garlic butter for a more robust flavor.
- These breadsticks can be made ahead of time and frozen after baking. Reheat them in the oven to enjoy.
