Description

Soft, buttery, and packed with garlic flavor, these Garlic Breadsticks are a perfect side dish for pasta, soups, or salads. They’re brushed with garlic butter and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese, making them an irresistible treat for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

For the Garlic Butter:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Make the dough: Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Stir to form a dough, then knead for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  • First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Shape the breadsticks: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a long breadstick shape. Place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Second rise: Cover the breadsticks and let them rise for another 15-20 minutes.
  • Bake: Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Garlic butter topping: While the breadsticks are baking, mix the melted butter with minced garlic, oregano, and garlic powder.
  • Brush and serve: As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them generously with the garlic butter. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, brush with garlic butter again right before serving.
  • You can add Italian seasoning to the garlic butter for a more robust flavor.
  • These breadsticks can be made ahead of time and frozen after baking. Reheat them in the oven to enjoy.
