Description

These Chicken Cordon Bleu Rolls are a modern take on the classic dish. Juicy chicken breasts are stuffed with ham and Swiss cheese, rolled, breaded, and baked to golden perfection. They’re elegant enough for a dinner party but simple enough for a weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices of ham (thinly sliced)
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
    • Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and gently pound them with a mallet until they are about 1/4-inch thick.
  2. Assemble the Rolls:
    • Lay each chicken breast flat and season both sides with salt and pepper.
    • Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese in the center of each breast. Roll the chicken tightly around the filling and secure with toothpicks.
  3. Set Up the Breading Stations:
    • Place the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten eggs in a second, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and paprika in a third.
  4. Bread the Chicken:
    • Dredge each chicken roll in the flour, shaking off the excess. Dip it into the eggs, then coat it thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Bake:
    • Place the breaded chicken rolls in the prepared baking dish, seam-side down. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the exterior is golden and crispy. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  6. Serve:
    • Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes, then remove the toothpicks. Slice and serve warm, garnished with fresh parsley if desired. Pair with a side salad, roasted vegetables, or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the ham before rolling.
  • To make ahead, prepare and refrigerate the rolls (uncooked) for up to 24 hours, then bake when ready.
  • These can also be air-fried at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes for a crispier texture.
