Description
These Chicken Cordon Bleu Rolls are a modern take on the classic dish. Juicy chicken breasts are stuffed with ham and Swiss cheese, rolled, breaded, and baked to golden perfection. They’re elegant enough for a dinner party but simple enough for a weeknight meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 4 slices of ham (thinly sliced)
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
- Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and gently pound them with a mallet until they are about 1/4-inch thick.
- Assemble the Rolls:
- Lay each chicken breast flat and season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese in the center of each breast. Roll the chicken tightly around the filling and secure with toothpicks.
- Set Up the Breading Stations:
- Place the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten eggs in a second, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and paprika in a third.
- Bread the Chicken:
- Dredge each chicken roll in the flour, shaking off the excess. Dip it into the eggs, then coat it thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture.
- Bake:
- Place the breaded chicken rolls in the prepared baking dish, seam-side down. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the exterior is golden and crispy. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Serve:
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes, then remove the toothpicks. Slice and serve warm, garnished with fresh parsley if desired. Pair with a side salad, roasted vegetables, or mashed potatoes.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the ham before rolling.
- To make ahead, prepare and refrigerate the rolls (uncooked) for up to 24 hours, then bake when ready.
- These can also be air-fried at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes for a crispier texture.
