Description

Banana Pudding is a classic dessert that layers rich vanilla custard, ripe bananas, and crispy vanilla wafers, topped with fluffy whipped cream or meringue. It’s a beloved treat known for its creamy texture and comforting sweetness, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

2 cups whole milk
14 oz sweetened condensed milk (1 can)
5 oz instant vanilla pudding mix (1 package)
3 cups heavy cream, divided
3 tbsp granulated sugar, divided
3 tsp vanilla extract, divided
1 box vanilla wafer cookies (16 oz.)
5 bananas, sliced into coins

Instructions

Prepare Pudding Mixture:
In a large bowl, whisk together the whole milk and sweetened condensed milk.
Sprinkle in the instant vanilla pudding mix and mix until completely incorporated with no lumps remaining. You can do this by hand or with an electric mixer.
Refrigerate for 5 minutes or until set.
Whip Cream:
In another bowl, add 3 cups of heavy cream, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
Mix on high until stiff peaks form.
Combine Pudding and Whipped Cream:
Remove the pudding mixture from the refrigerator.
Fold the whipped cream into the pudding mixture until well combined.
Layering:
Add a layer of vanilla wafer cookies to the bottom of your trifle dish or a larger bowl.
Place a quarter of the pudding mixture over the cookies and smooth it using a spatula.
Add another layer of cookies, then place a row of cookies facing the horizontal edge of your dish.
Add a layer of banana slices on top of the cookies, then add another quarter of the pudding mixture and smooth it out.
Continue layering with cookies, bananas, and pudding until complete. Alternate a row of banana slices with the cookies you’re pressing against the wall of the trifle dish.
Chill:
Chill the assembled pudding for three hours.
Prepare Topping:
Whip the remaining 1 cup of heavy cream with 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
Serve:
Pile the whipped cream topping on top of the chilled pudding.
Crumble the remaining cookies over the whipped cream.
Serve and enjoy! 🍌🥄

Notes

  • For a meringue topping instead of whipped cream, whip 3 egg whites with 1/4 cup sugar until stiff peaks form and spread over the pudding. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until golden brown.
  • The pudding can be made up to a day in advance to allow flavors to meld.
